Beacon Hill Park engagement portraits – Victoria BC

A sunset engagement portrait of a couple among the trees on the Douglas Street side of Beacon Hill Park in Victoria BC

When you’ve been together for 11 years but still look at each other like you’ve just fallen in love. When you have the prefect sunset at Beacon Hill park for your couples’ mini-session. When even the peacocks seem to want a cameo. What a treat to photograph Cat and Harry ahead of their upcoming wedding in Ontario. So much fun!

Engagement portrait sessions focus on connection and movement rather than stiff posing. You’ll walk, talk, laugh, and just spend time together while I guide you with easy, low‑pressure direction so everything feels good and looks effortless. Photos are candid, creative, and a mix of film and digital.
Do we have to be engaged?
Not at all. Couples book these sessions for all kinds of reasons. Engagements, anniversaries, elopement announcements, or simply because you want beautiful photos of the two of you. They are also perfect for updating photos in your home or creating artwork you will actually want on your walls.
Do you offer engagement mini sessions?
Yes. Mini sessions are shorter and ideal if you want a small set of images in one location. You’d be surprised at hoe much variety you will get in a short period of time. Full sessions allow more time to explore, change locations, and settle in. These are great if you want a more storytelling feel or a larger gallery.
What should we wear?
Choose outfits that feel like you. Neutral tones, soft textures, and layers photograph beautifully. Try to avoid large logos, busy patterns, or anything too stiff. Coordinating is better than matching, and comfort matters. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it will show.
How should we get ready for our session?
Get some rest, eat beforehand, and give yourselves a little extra time so you’re not rushed. Think of this as a date rather than a photo shoot. Bring comfortable shoes if we’re walking, and trust that you don’t need to know how to pose. I give you easy-to-follow directions so you can relax and have fun.
What are the best locations for engagement portraits in Victoria BC?
Some of of my favourite engagement and couple portrait locations in Victoria include: Beacon Hill Park, UVic campus, Butchart Gardens, Government House, Dallas Road Breakwater, Cattle Point and any of the beaches around Victoria. If you have a place that feels meaningful to you, I’m always happy to photograph there as well, including your home or backyard.
Do you travel outside Victoria?
Yes. I photograph couples throughout southern Vancouver Island, including Victoria, Sooke, Sidney, Metchosin, Duncan, Langford, Colwood, and beyond. If you have a location in mind, just ask.
Are sessions photographed on film or digital?
Both. I shoot a mix of film and digital for a timeless, romantic look with depth and character, along with the reliability and flexibility of digital. If you’d prefer 100% film or 100% digital that’s no problem either. It’s your choice.
