For Canadian Thanksgiving I had a chance to photograph this family connecting and having fun together with only a few group pictures after dinner. I loved that everyone just laughed and enjoyed themselves and barely noticed I was there.

Being an observer and capturing family moments as a documentary family photographer is such a privilege. It’s not about flashy gear or extravagant setups; it’s about paying attention to what’s unfolding around you. It’s the subtle gestures, the fleeting expressions, and the candid laughs that often go unnoticed by the casual observer. As a photographer, my job is to be there, present but unobtrusive, catching these little moments that reveal so much about the family in front of my lens. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating this weekend on the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples represented by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples represented by the Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tsawout, Tseycum and Malahat Nations, also known as Victoria BC.
