Prepare to have your heart completely melted by this 12-day-old baby and her 2 1/2 year old big brother. I met up with this family for their maternity portraits a couple of months ago and was excitedly waiting for the day I could come and photograph their newborn in their home. Big brother was doing his very best job being gentle and loving to his new baby sister, and I adored how each parent patiently made sure he got lots of attention so he felt special in his new role. I think this session is a great example of how much we can accomplish in a very short period of time. We took breaks for nursing and changing, followed the baby’s lead, and still had time for family photos, individual portraits and plenty of candid moments in between.
If you’ve found your way here and you’re expecting, you may be wondering just how “photo ready” you and your house need to be during a time when you’re running on little sleep and spending most of your energy caring for a brand-new baby. The good news? Not very. I know this stage of life can be exhausting, and the last thing you need is pressure to tidy your entire home before I arrive. Most newborn sessions only require a small area with good window light, whether that’s your bed, the couch, the nursery, or a cozy spot on the floor. When I do pull back for wider photographs, it’s because the space adds to the story and the memories you’re creating and I won’t click if it shows you or your house in an unflattering way.
Have a look through this collection and you’ll see exactly what I mean (PS the family received considerably more photos than you see here- these are just the highlights. Also, you’ll always receive two versions of each photo – one in black and white + one in colour. I like to post B&Ws because it’s my favourite, but if colour is more your style then you’ll receive those, too).
I am in absolute AWE! The photos are so so beautiful I have no words. I think I got some dust in my eyes while watching the slideshow – the screen became a little blurry for me LOL. We can’t even tell you how much we love working with you and appreciate you coming to the house to capture these moments! I’ve already been raving to my friends/family about your work!
