Having an engagement portrait session is an awesome way to get to know your wedding photographer before the big celebration – and it’s also nice to have some frame-worthy casual photos of yourselves as you begin your life together.
One of the most common questions I’m asked is, “What should I wear to my engagement portrait session?”
While there are a few “don’ts” the rest is all up to you — your style and how you want to remember this time in your lives. You’ll see a range of outfit styles in the following photos – from casual to dressy, or a combination of both.
Here are a few simple don’ts to keep in mind:
- Don’t wear anything with distracting patterns or logos (unless it’s part of the story of how you met) because they will take away from your faces. We want all the focus to be on beautiful you.
- Don’t wear anything neon since it will sometimes create a colour-cast on your face.
- Don’t wear anything that’s super trendy because it might make you cringe in a few years when it goes out of style.
That’s it… otherwise, I just say keep it simple, classic and timeless. You don’t need to match, but wearing complimentary colours will look great in photos.
