Kristy & Paul’s mountain wedding in Canmore

A special thank you to my second shooter Shirley Sullivan for helping me with this stunning wedding at the Silvertip Resort in Canmore, Alberta.

KRISTY WRITES: “Paul and I met through my brother in law. They were partners in the RCMP working in Nortern Saskatchewan. He was in Saskatchewan and I was in Ontario finishing school. We were long distance for 8 months. We talked on the phone every day for 5-8 hours a day. If we weren’t talking we were texting. When I finished school we decided to move in together in Saskatchewan (my career being much more portable than his). Though it was a very big decision, it was also a very easy one. There was never a question of us not being together anyways. It has been the best decision I have ever made in my life. I have no regrets and I have never looked back. We have been living together for four years and have even purchased our first house together. Through Paul I have become the person I have always wanted to be. We are so excited to begin the next adventure in our lives. Together we can go anywhere and do anything. Though we will never have a permanent home, and it will be difficult to put down roots when we’re moving every 3-5 years, our home is each other.”

“The first movie we had watched together on our first date was the Disney movie UP. We try to watch the movie on our anniversary every year. In fact the day after the wedding we will be together for five years and we’re bringing the movie with us. We have added some small elements of the movie to our decor. Our guestbook is “our adventure book”. I feel like looking at life as an adventure as it is in he movie describes us very well. With Paul’s job we’ll be moving around a lot, and we often describe our next post as our next great adventure. We also have a rustic vintage sort of feel to the wedding. My dress is vintage and lace, but also keeping a rustic feel with braids in my hair. The venue is rustic with the large amount of wood. Paul and I chose our venue because we love the mountains. We felt Silvertip is a great reflection of us, with the grand views of the mountains, yet a laid back chill area for the reception. Obviously the Pavilion is still very beautiful. We had also looked at some grander venues, but we’re not castle people. For me, Calgary has always been my second home as my sister moved there when I was 16. I have always been captivated by the mountains, going on long hikes and camping trips with my family. Since Paul and I started dating, we had always dreamed that our wedding would be in the beautiful Rockies.”
