May I ask you a question directly? Absolutely. Please get in touch if you have any questions about the workshop.Does the workshop include overnight accommodations or a travel reimbursement? The workshop does not include transportation or accommodations. How do I register? Please visit the Registration Information page for more details. Can you give me an example of something I'll learn that may not already know? We're going to spend a good amount of time training your eye to see light the way your camera sees light rather than the way we see light with our eyes. For instance, this picture was taken outside at 4pm in August and no flash was used. There is no dodging and burning and the only thing I did to the file was convert it to black and white. We'll discuss how to achieve results like this (and we'll go outside to practice). That way you can take one setting and make it look like several by simply interpreting the light differently. ![]() Who is our instructor Christina? What experience does she have? My name is Christina Craft and I'm excited to help you succeed in your career as a wedding photographer. In 2010/2011 I placed three times in the top 10 and once in the top 20 with the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers. I have also won several high-profile international awards for my work from Kodak, the Wedding Photojournalist Association, WedComp, Fearless Photographers and the AGWPJA. I currently teach wedding photography and business at the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria and I have also taught wedding and portrait photography at Camosun College. My training includes a master's degree in journalism from Carleton University and a diploma in photography from the Western Academy of Photography where I won the award for Best Overall Student. I'm a very candid person and I am open to sharing information with anyone. Before becoming a photographer, I worked as an online marketing manager for over 10 years. My knowledge of internet marketing has allowed me to have a first page ranking for most destination wedding photography keywords on Google. I have clients from all over the world and over the last two years I have photographed weddings in more than 20 destinations, including the US Virigin Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Barbados, the Bahamas and St. Lucia. I love mixing fashion, fine art, photojournalism and everything in between. Please feel free to browse around my portfolio to see the kinds of things that inspire me. We'll talk about how I achieved some of these results in the workshop. Do I need to bring my camera to the workshop? Yes. We're going to do hands-on interactive demonstrations in each workshop so please bring your camera so you can follow along. Please bring a flash, a telephoto and a standard zoom lens for practice. You'll have several shoots (including a night shoot) during the three-day workshops and one shoot during the one-day workshops. What photography skills do I need? Unfortunately, neither workshop will teach you the fundamentals of photography. You're expected to know how to control aperture, shutter speed and ISO. You should be experienced shooting with a DSLR camera. If you answer yes to the following questions you'll have no trouble following along: 1) Do you know how to under expose by one stop ?2) Do you know how to control the ISO settings on your camera? 3) Do you know what the term shallow depth of field means? 4) Do you know how to slow your shutter speed to create intentional blur in a photo? 5) Do you know how to control your aperture to create selective focus on a subject? Although we will go over flash and off-camera flash techniques, you do not need to have flash (or off-camera flash) equipment to participate in the workshop. Most of our practice time will focus on working with ambient light. Do I need to have experience photographing weddings? This workshop is designed to help you gain the skills and inspiration needed to be a creative wedding photographer regardless of your experience with weddings.
Will I get free food? Yes. Lunch is included. Plus, there will be snacks, coffee, tea and soft drinks for you to enjoy at any time. What is the length of the workshop?
The FunkyTown Bootcamp is one full day and will run from 10am to 6pm with a 45 minute break for lunch. Are the workshops interactive or is it just a lecture? All of the workshops are extremely interactive so you'll have a chance to practice posing and lighting skills in a friendly environment. Both the one-day FunkyTown Bootcamp and the Day and Night workshop involve photographing models in wedding attire. Please bring your camera & flash to follow along with demonstrations. Will there be time for a portfolio review? There are two critiques built into the three-day workshop. However, we won't have time for a critique in the one-day FunkyTown Bootcamp. How many students will be in each workshop? The FunkyTown Bootcamp is limited to no more than 15 participants. The Day and Night Workshop is limited to no more than 10 participants. That way you have more attention and hands-on learning. |
