Congratulations on your engagement and thank you for visiting the FunkyTown website!

CHRISTINA'S APPROACH
When I'm shooting a wedding, I try to cover events with as little intrusion as possible, capturing moments as they happen. When it's time for portraits, I believe in taking the pressure off "look this way" and "put your hands and feet that way" and instead focus on getting everyone to relax and have fun. Rather than forced posing, I direct couples to interact, play around and be themselves. Quite a few people in our wedding galleries were very camera shy at first but were able to loosen up and have a good time. I think most of you would have trouble identifying the ones who were nervous about having a camera on them all day.
You may also notice from looking at our online galleries that there are a range of styles. I love mixing fashion, fine art, the unusual and the "funky." I am happy to customize our style to suit your preferences since I believe you should spend your wedding day exactly how *you* want to spend it (not how your photographer wants you to spend it).
CHRISTINA'S BIOGRAPHY
I have a master's degree in journalism from Carleton University and a diploma in photography from the Western Academy of Photography. While at Western, I won the award for "Best Overall Student" and I'm now teaching the school's wedding photography course.
I have won several high-profile international awards for my work from the Wedding Photojournalist Association, Kodak, WedComp and the AGWPJA and a few of our weddings have been published in leading magazines. I take wedding commissions all over the world and it is inspiring to photograph such a variety of celebrations in so many different locations.
In addition to weddings, I'm also really into travel and nature photography. Last year some of my wildlife images placed as a finalist in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and the Nature's Best Photography Contest. My nature galleries received more than three million visits last year.
SOME NEWS
If you're a previous client or are friends with someone we've photographed, you may know that until 2009 FunkyTown was a large team of photographers, and included both Eunice Montenegro and myself as the two primary shooters. Sadly, my close friend and business partner is moving to the east coast of Canada. When I realized Eunice was moving, I started to think about how I wanted our business to run and decided to offer a more personalized service with all-inclusive, all-day packages. That's why next year I'll be taking on a limited number of commissions to ensure I can focus more attention on each of my clients.
Our large team of associate photographers are all extremely creative and each of them are now running their own photography businesses. The west-coast photography community is very close-knit and I'll still be shooting with many of the people who were on our team this year.
With all of these changes in the works, we have modified our web galleries. The main galleries show images shot by me and the feature galleries show images shot by me & a second shooter.
Get in touch with us! We'd love to hear from you.
