Costa Rica Wedding Photography

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We are proud to serve Costa Rica, offering our full-service wedding photography packages. Our principal photographer Christina travels to Costa Rica yearly and knows the country intimately. She had her own destination wedding at the Arenal Volcano, so she knows what it's like to organize a wedding from far away.

As you browse our site you will notice that there are no typical pose-and-shoot wedding portraits. That's because we believe a natural smile photographs better than a forced one and the greatest compliment we could receive is hearing that we captured the real story of your wedding. Our approach allows you to be yourself and you can trust us to give you wedding photographs that are unlike anyone else's.

Any advice about where to have our Costa Rica Wedding?

  • Arenal Kioro - have your wedding overlooking the famous Arenal volcano. This is the same area where our photographer Christina Craft was married 10 years ago.
  • The Hotel Parador - the highest-end luxury hotel in the Manuel Antonio area. It's surrounded by rich jungle filled with wildlife.
  • Arenas del Mar Beach & Nature Resort
  • Gaia Hotel & Reserve
  • Makanda by the Sea
  • Bahia Pez Vela in Gunacaste

How well does Christina know Costa Rica?

Our photographer Christina Craft was married in Costa Rica and knows the country intimately. She has traveled there every year for the last 10 years and has visited every region and most towns.

How much are your wedding photography packages for Costa Rica?

Please contact us for a detailed price guide for our wedding photography packages.

How soon can we see our wedding photographs after our day is over?

Normal viewing time is within four weeks of your wedding date or sooner. To ensure every image we provide you is perfect, our post-production generally requires about 30 hours of work. Albums can take an additional 20 hours, plus consultation time.

What is your approach to photographing weddings?

Remember those school portraits where you sat stiffly holding a smile for an eternity? Well... we are the exact opposite of that. We spend the time to get to know you, to find out the kinds of images that appeal to you and to understand the way you want to spend your day. We really want to know how to make sure you can relax and enjoy your wedding. Our team of photographers strives to create images that tell the unique story of your day. We want to give you images that are unlike anyone else's.

What is your style - are you photojournalism, fashion, fine art?

Actually, we offer a blend of all of the above, or you can pick just one and we will customize our style for your taste. Christina and Eunice are inspired by fashion photography, photojournalism and fine art.

What exactly does wedding photojournalism mean? Does this mean you never take posed or directed photos? What if we want some traditional portraits of our families and friends?

If you choose our wedding photojournalism approach we can be as hands off or as hands on as you like. Most people prefer to have their wedding day covered without intrustion, but still want to spend some time doing straight-forward posed family portraits and relaxed-yet-creative couple and wedding party portraits.

Do you ever take posed pictures before the wedding so we can spend more time with our guests after the ceremony?

Absolutely. Many people opt to do this and it does mean you can spend your entire wedding celelebration doing just that -- celebrating!

I look terrible in pictures. I'm worried about how I'll look in pictures on my wedding day.

We hear this all the time and that's why we take the pressure off "put your hands this way and your feet that way" and instead work on getting you to relax in front of the camera. Even during directed moments we will provide you with some straight-forward instructions that ensure you are acting naturally. Many of the people in our wedding gallery told us they were uneasy about having their picture taken and yet they all look like rock stars! I'll bet you won't be able to tell the people who were camera shy.

How can we meet with you to arrange a one-on-one consulation?

You are welcome to contact us with times that work for you and we will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation with you to discuss your wedding further and tell you more about how we work. To help us serve you better, please provide us with your current time zone, plus the location and date of your wedding.

REQUIREMENTS FOR GETTING MARRIED IN COSTA RICA The following is a list of requirements for civil marriage of non-residents in Costa Rica.

1. Costa Rica requires a valid passport for foreigners who want to marry. Social Security nor drivers license of any country is considered proper identification for marriage purposes. A visa is not required for most visitors.

2. Have your information, including a scanned passport, handed in within 10 days before the ceremony date.

3. Two (2) people are required to sign as witnesses at your wedding in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, they cannot be "family up to the third degree," meaning witnesses cannot be a relation to the bride and groom: mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, uncle, aunt, sister, half sister, brother, half brother, cousin, nephew, neice, all in-laws, etc. Friends or staff working for your marriage commissioner/hotel, etc., are best.

4. You will be required to be in the country at least four days before your wedding.

5. The Certificate of Marriage in Costa Rica takes 3 (three) months to process. A Rush Option is available for an additional fee, in which the Certificate is ready in 10-12 business days.

6. Once the Certificate is received, usually you need to register it in your city of residence, including city hall, town hall, municipality or equivalent to inquire where marriages are registered. Costa Rican marriages are recognized all over the world.

7. The procedure for a valid marriage in Costa Rica involves the signing of two documents once concluded the ceremony. One is a sworn statement attesting principally to your marital status, thus avoiding any further proof. The other is the marriage document itself. After the ceremony, you cannot recieve a Certificate because first paperwork must be submitted to the Civil Registry of Costa Rica. The whole processing of documents, which includes translation and authentication by the Consulate of your country of residence, may vary but normally takes 10-12 weeks.

Once everything is ready, the Marriage Certificate will be sent, along with instructions, to the address you provide on Item 8. Lawyer or wedding coordintaor will keep you updated with paperwork progress, via email, so you know exactly when the documentation is sent.
